"Sometimes I make in character: Joyce Brown is my current persona. Joyce's husband plays golf, her kids have left home, and Joyce has started cutting up her old recipe books. She doesn't see these as collages, they were never intended for public display. For her they're an escape, a working through. Making in character allows me to flip autistic masking and use it to my own ends: I can play, make mistakes, and explore alternate and tangential perspectives with the safety of a front/wo/man. These books can be seen almost as a negotiation or a conversation with a possible future."
