"This is a marker, somewhere between a trig point and an ancient standing stone, a beacon staking a claim for autistic people and saying, “we've always been here.”
I've invited (and continue to invite) autistic people to add their voices as a celebration of our identities. By the nature of autism, we are often spoken over, or for, so I wanted to give agency back to autistic people.
Outside of rhetoric about causes and treatment and education and work and reasonable adjustments and support and care and diagnosis and trends and social media nonsense, we exist, as individuals, valid and beautiful, deserving of love."
